A study from New Mexico State University (NMSU) found that Victoria’s Secret Bombshell perfume is moderately effective at repelling two types of disease-carrying mosquitos: Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti (aka the species spreading Zika).

The research, which was published last fall in the Journal of Insect Science, compared the efficacy of eight commercially-available mosquito repellents, two fragrances, and one vitamin B patch. They used each product on a person’s hand and noted whether mosquitoes were attracted or repelled.

If you follow the beauty world closely, you know that 2016 was a surprising year for makeup and beauty. The biggest beauty trends in 2016 perhaps weren’t things that we could’ve predicted at the beginning of the year, but make total sense now. From Kylie Cosmetics’ total world domination to the insane cult status that Glossier reached, 2016 was all about the new players in the beauty industry.

I was dying to see what resonated with beauty fans this year, so when social commerce site Polyvore released its Best of Polyvoresurvey this week, I had to check out the beauty section. Polyvore annually compiles the most-searched items on its site, and the results for 2016 were fascinating. So what was the biggest beauty trend of 2016? According to Polyvore, the most searched beauty product this year was nude lipstick. Following closely behind it? Matte lipstick. I’ll go ahead and call it the Kylie Jenner effect — after all, her Kylie Cosmetics collection’s trademark product is the matte Kylie lip kit (which has tons of nude options).

Jenner can’t take all the credit, though. Cosmetics companies this year were all about the liquid lipsticks, which are having a major resurgence. I’ll let you see Polyvore’s results for yourself though — they’re actually super fascinating.

So what were the most popular beauty trends? Here’s the top 10.

  1. Nude Lipstick
  2. Matte Lipstick
  3. Waterproof Eyeliner
  4. Matte Cream Eyeshadow
  5. Rose Gold Eyeshadow
  6. Shimmer Blush
  7. Cream Blush
  8. Stiletto Nails
  9. Acrylic Nails
  10. Gold Nails

They’re not that surprising. After all, rose gold had a huge moment in 2016, and people were all about the stiletto nails and other acrylics. So, did Jenner make the list of the most-searched brands? Not this year.

Just when you maybe (maybe?) felt a bit over the Kylie Lip Kits, the youngest Jenner sister made a brilliant marketing move. Kylie teamed up with her fashionable older sister Khloé Kardashian to create her brand’s first-ever “kollaboration” (her words!).

This partnership — dubbed Koko Kosmetics — includes four new holiday liquid lipstick shades. The hues include Gorg (matte plum), Damn Gina (shimmery champagne), Khlo$ (matte pink rose), and Okurrr (matte hot pink). Kylie even had her best friend, Jordyn Woods, model the colors on the Kylie Cosmetics Instagram page. The formulas are housed in chic gold tubes with the signature lipstick drip design.

You won’t have to wait too long to snag them, because the set goes on sale on Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. PT. Plus, Kylie made these more affordable than usual. On Instagram, she wrote, “3 of our mattes & a gloss would usually be $66 but these babies are $40 and if you order within the US there’s FREESHIPPING.” Call it a holiday miracle.

Keep reading to see images of the glosses, swatches, and of course how they look on Jordyn’s Instagram-famous pucker!

There are few things that make us happier than brand-new product launches. So you can imagine our excitement when tarte, one of our favorite cult makeup brands (and one that also happens to be cruelty-free), released not one but three new products in a week. Between an eye shadow palette, a highlight and contour palette, and a matte lipstick, we had enough makeup on hand to make any beauty junkie jealous.

Instead of keeping the products for ourselves (as much as we wanted to), we invited three of our biggest beauty-obsessed editors to test-drive the products for themselves. Keep reading to find out which they’re obsessed with.

1. tarteist PRO Amazonian Clay Palette ($53)

“This is my new go-to eye shadow palette for the season. The rich, warm colors are formulated with all-natural ingredients and were highly pigmented, super blendable, and lasted from morning through a dinner date. I was able to create several different eye looks from the palette that all popped on my fair skin. The neutrals are perfect for workdays, and the jewel tones are statement-makers for a night out. My favorite was a marsala smoky eye that I finished off with the shimmery shades. In fact, I’m re-creating the look for my upcoming engagement photos because I know my eyes will stand out without looking too harsh.” — Macy Williams, assistant editor, Love & Sex

2. tarteist PRO Glow Highlight and Contour Palette ($45)

“I love the variety of colors in this palette and the cooler undertones — a perfect match for my super pale skin and white-blond hair. The application was smooth, with easy blending and a seamless finish. Everything stayed on very well. I wore the full contour and highlight look throughout the day and into the night, and not only was it still intact at the end of the evening, but I also felt confident that the makeup wasn’t damaging my skin thanks to the synthetic-free formula. It required little to no touch-up!” — Hilary White, editor, Smart Living

3. tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint ($20)

“I’m obsessed with the ‘Salty’ color, which is a matte pink nude shade. I’m picky with opaque colors, but this one was super pigmented — just the way I like it. The product glided on evenly, dried in seconds, and stayed on even through coffee and lunch without drying out my lips. Plus, I love that tarte is a cruelty-free line committed to avoiding harmful ingredients.” — Rebecca Brown, editor, Native
